Self Cleaning Concrete and Plaster Products
Buildings are exposed to many organic contaminants: from bird poop to diesel fumes. In fact all urban buildings are constantly exposed to these kinds of organic materials and many of them make the surfaces of buildings appear dirty. Often the bill for cleaning these surfaces is expensive!
Italcementi‘s chemist Luigi Cassar and his team have developed a self-cleaning cement that also helps to neutralise pollutants and improve air quality. This new cement is used to produce concrete and plaster products that keep building surfaces clean, this then contributes to cleaning maintenance savings along with a bonus addition of making the air around the building much cleaner … ASTONISHING!
HOW IT WORKS: the technology is based on indestructible photocatalytic ingredients which are added to the concrete mixture, then when the sun shines on the concrete, the added compounds use the energy from the suns ultraviolet rays to decompose the unwanted unsightly organic and sometimes inorganic contaminates at an accelerated rate. Rain then washes of the residue and the concrete looks good as new!
